Valls will host the cantata "Un Cant als Estels" (A Song to the Stars) on 17 May, featuring primary school pupils from across the city. This marks the fourth consecutive year the Valls City Council has participated in the musical project, which combines live music, theatre, and a large children's choir.
The performance will take place at the Municipal Cultural Centre at 12pm. Students from Baltis, Eugeni d’Ors, Eladi Homs, and Cor de Maria schools will participate. The event is organised jointly by the City Council's Culture and Education and Linguistic Policy departments, according to officials.
Free tickets for the Valls show will be available online and at the Teatre Principal box office from 10am on Thursday, 30 April.
Exploring Emotions Through Music
The cantata, composed by Petit Taller de Cançons in collaboration with the Department of Education's Pau Casals Learning Centre, features 11 songs. These pieces explore different forms of love throughout life. Each participating school prepares two consecutive songs, with a final song performed by all centres together.
The project's goal is to create a space where children and young people can explore and understand their emotions, learning healthy ways to manage them. The performances are always held outside school hours, during the weekend.
Following the success of previous years' cantatas, "Un Cant als Estels: the journey through lost loves" is touring Catalonia again. Besides Valls, performances are scheduled in Barcelona, El Vendrell, Lleida, Sallent, Gavà, and Alcanar.
Educational Impact in Classrooms
The initiative also aims to provide students with tools to face daily emotional challenges, promoting creativity and cooperation through music. It reflects values such as empathy, resilience, and the ability to manage complex situations with serenity and maturity, according to organisers.
Beyond the stage experience, "Un Cant als Estels" is integrated into classroom learning. More than 2,000 students, 71 teachers in training, and 60 educational centres are involved. The project addresses emotional management, inclusion, and creativity, forming part of a learning approach that promotes emotional well-being, a gender perspective, and quality education in languages and arts.
A dedicated website offers all necessary materials for preparing the show, including scores, texts, videos, and other teaching resources. The Valls performance on 17 May continues this educational and artistic tradition.
