Valls, in the province of Tarragona, will launch Calçofest on 22 November, a new festival designed to celebrate the start of the calçot season. This event will combine music, culture, and gastronomy, aiming to become a significant fixture in Catalonia's cultural calendar, according to Valls officials.

The festival will transform Valls' historic centre into a vibrant cultural hub for the day. It will feature concerts by prominent Catalan bands, local cuisine, and multidisciplinary shows, all while highlighting the city's heritage and local produce, with the calçot as a central symbol.

Morning activities will include free multidisciplinary performances such as dance, magic, and circus acts across the city centre. These shows are designed to engage a broad audience before the main musical programme begins.

Major Concert Line-up Announced

The afternoon will focus on large-scale music concerts, starting at 5pm in the Hort del Carme car park. The line-up includes some of Catalonia's most popular contemporary musical acts: Figa Flawas, The Tyets, Buhos, La Fúmiga, Els Catarres, Ginestà, Les Que Faltaband, Maria Jacobs, and DJ Trapella.

The festival's organisers are also using the event to promote local talent. Figa Flawas, a band from Valls, will headline the festival, and Maria Jacobs, another local artist, will open the main stage at Hort del Carme. The event is designed to attract a diverse, intergenerational audience, including young people, families, and fans of festive music.

Calçotada and Local Restaurant Offers

Beyond the music, Calçofest will feature a popular calçotada in Valls city centre, held before the main concert. Additionally, many local restaurants will participate by offering special menus and deals to celebrate the festival's launch and the new calçot season.

Calçofest represents a new approach for Valls to celebrate the beginning of the calçot season, blending tradition with modern music and culture. The city is taking a step forward with a festival created to share, enjoy, and promote its unique identity, officials said.

Tickets for Calçofest went on sale on 4 August. Prices will increase progressively as the festival date approaches. The event is organised by Redstar de Valls and Boom Boom Produccions, with support from the Department of Culture of the Generalitat, the Diputació de Tarragona, Valls City Council, the Valls Chamber of Commerce, and the Protected Geographical Indication Calçot de Valls. Further details about the programme and practical information will be released in the coming weeks.
