The Casteller Museum of Catalonia in Valls has announced a special Christmas programme of activities for children and families, running from 13 December to 3 January. Creative workshops, participatory events, discovery games, and stories for young children will fill the museum during the festive period, creating a cultural meeting point for families.
This festive programme starts on Saturday, 13 December, with "Come and decorate the Casteller Museum's Christmas tree". This participatory event is for families with children aged 4 to 12, and will bring creativity and Christmas spirit to the educational room.
On Sunday, 21 December, the museum will host "Casteller Christmas Cards", an open workshop for all ages in the main lobby. Participants can design and create their own cards inspired by the world of castells (human towers) and the Christmas holidays.
Festive Activities for All Ages
During the school holidays, the museum will offer fun and educational activities, such as the family scavenger hunt "The World's Tallest Christmas". This event, taking place on Saturday, 27 December, invites families to explore the museum's different spaces in a fun and interactive way, discovering facts about castells and Christmas.
On Tuesday, 30 December, younger visitors can enjoy the story-workshop "The Enxaneta Who Wanted to Be a Star". This activity is for children aged 4 to 8, combining storytelling and a creative workshop in the educational room. It aims to encourage imagination, the values of collective effort, and the magic of the holidays.
The programme will conclude on Friday, 3 January, with a special family edition of "Castells & Christmas Wine". This event adapts the experience for all ages, allowing families to discover the world of castells in an enjoyable, participatory, and shared way.
Monumental Nativity Scene Inauguration
Additionally, the museum will again host the inauguration of Valls' monumental nativity scene. This event will take place on Friday, 12 December, at 6pm, and is open to all residents, marking the start of the city's Christmas celebrations, according to Valls officials.
The Casteller Museum of Catalonia aims to be a lively, educational, and family-friendly space during the Christmas holidays. All activities require prior registration. To reserve a place, email the museum, indicating the desired activity and the number of attendees. Places are limited, and further information is available by phone.
Opened in 2023, the Casteller Museum of Catalonia is located in Valls. It was developed with support from Valls City Council, the Government of Catalonia, Tarragona Provincial Council, and the Coordinadora de Colles Castelleres de Catalunya (Coordinator of Catalan Human Tower Groups). The project created a unique and new museum and experience centre in the heart of the Historic Centre, next to the emblematic Plaça del Blat, known as 'Kilometre Zero' for castells.
At the new Casteller Museum, visitors can experience the emotions of castells and discover the values and traditions surrounding this unique practice, which has over two centuries of history and is recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
