Catalonia's meteorological service, Meteocat, issued an updated yellow alert for intense rainfall across several southern Tarragona province comarcas on Saturday, 9 May 2026. The alert, active from 14:00 to 20:00, warns of locally intense precipitation that could exceed 20 litres per square metre in just 30 minutes.

The expanded alert covers the Montsià, Baix Ebre, Terra Alta, Ribera d’Ebre, Priorat, Baix Camp, and Tarragonès comarcas. This extends the area previously under warning, as the region experiences an ongoing period of heavy rain, according to Meteocat.

Precipitation Risk Increases

Protecció Civil, Catalonia's civil protection agency, also issued a pre-alert for its INUNCAT flood plan, urging caution. The agency highlighted the forecast of rain intensity exceeding 20 litres per square metre in 30 minutes across the pre-coastal and southern coastal comarcas of Catalonia from midday into the afternoon.

While the most severe warnings are concentrated in southern Tarragona, Meteocat indicated that other parts of Catalonia could also see rain, though with less intensity. Temperatures across the region are expected to remain stable, with highs around 24 degrees Celsius and lows between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius.

Outlook for Sunday

Looking ahead to Sunday, a temporary improvement in weather conditions is forecast for the morning. However, thunderstorms are expected to return in the afternoon, with a possibility of hail in some areas of the Terres de l’Ebre region, according to Meteocat's projections.
