In the Barcelona area, the territorial urban planning commission has approved a change to planning that allows a new neighbourhood around the Roca factory, between Gavà and Viladecans.
The project, called Roca City Gavà-Viladecans, will combine homes, economic activity, facilities and shops. It will include 2,730 homes, of which 1,260 will be publicly owned, according to the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat. Territory Minister Sílvia Paneque visited the site and said the planning change “symbolises” a shift in urban development. She said it moves away from expanding into undeveloped land and instead focuses on rethinking and adapting existing spaces.
The modification to the metropolitan general plan covers 32 hectares between the Roca factory and its surroundings. Sixty per cent of the land, 330,992 square metres, is set aside for economic activity, including shops and a Roca company complex. The remaining 40% is for housing.
The plan also includes two public facilities. One will be in the former Roca office building, and another in an old factory. That building could be used for educational, socio-cultural, administrative or research purposes.
A 7.36-hectare park is also part of the project. The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition is the source for the project details, while the territorial urban planning commission approved the planning change.
