Residents seeking affordable rented housing in Reus and Vila-seca could benefit from a Generalitat agreement to acquire 433 homes from InmoCaixa for the public social-rental stock. The operation includes developments in both municipalities, with 16 homes in Vila-seca.

The Department of Territory said the agreement, negotiated through the Institut Català del Sòl (INCASÒL), the Catalan Land Institute, is expected to be completed in the coming months. The homes form part of nine developments across Catalonia.

Homes to remain in protected social-rental stock

The properties were built between 2002 and 2012 and had been let at social-rent prices. Most have official protected-housing status, according to the Generalitat announcement.

Of the 433 homes, 145 are vacant. The Generalitat plans to spend €13.7 million preparing them for occupation. The remaining 288 are occupied under tenancy agreements that are close to expiry, when their protected status could otherwise end.

  • 433 homes are included in the acquisition.
  • 467 parking spaces, 203 storage rooms, six commercial premises and two offices are also included.
  • Vila-seca's development includes 16 homes, 16 linked parking spaces, nine unallocated parking spaces, 15 linked storage rooms, four commercial premises and two offices.

The agreement is part of the Generalitat's Pla Impuls 10.000, a programme to add homes from large landlords to the public social-rental stock. The government said the programme had already incorporated almost 1,000 homes with investment of about €100 million.

Official list records 2024 tense-market designations

The Generalitat's official register of tense residential-market municipalities records the designations under resolutions TER/800/2024, in force from 16 March 2024, and TER/2408/2024, in force from 20 October 2024.

Residents can check that official register for the municipalities covered by those resolutions, while the Generalitat announcement sets out the properties and social-rental programme covered by the InmoCaixa acquisition.
