Barcelona will add a new dining room at the top of Tibidabo Amusement Park on 5 June, when chef Rafa Zafra opens Masia Tibidabo. The restaurant will sit 500 metres above sea level in the park’s main square and is set to become the city’s highest restaurant, according to Metrópoli.
The opening comes as Tibidabo marks its 125th anniversary. The project includes a full renovation of the historic Masia building, a Modernista structure of unknown authorship that first opened in 1901. Varis Arquitectes, with Dani Freixes leading the concept, has redesigned the interior.
The new space uses warm tones, wood and large windows to bring views of Barcelona and Collserola into the dining room. An innovative ceiling lighting system will create different atmospheres, in line with the park’s theme.
Zafra, who trained at Ferran Adrià’s elBulli, will lead the kitchen. His plan is to move away from standard theme park food and focus on seasonal Catalan cuisine, using local produce and dishes designed for sharing. The restaurant is intended to appeal to both children and adults.
Masia Tibidabo will have space for 300 diners across three areas. Guests can choose the main dining room, the mirador room, or the outdoor terrace, which will offer a quicker menu for visitors who want a shorter stop between attractions.
Barcelona City Council and the park’s management also plan to link the meal with the journey to the summit. A table reservation will include a ticket for the Cuca de Llum funicular, which takes visitors up to the park. For more on local coverage, see our news tag.
