Workers at Nissan are set to protest on Wednesday in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, in the Barcelona area, against a planned redundancy scheme affecting 211 employees.
The demonstration will take place outside Nissan Motor España's central offices. It follows a similar protest last week at the Japanese consulate in Barcelona, as unions continue to press the company over the dispute.
All unions on the Works Council have confirmed support for the mobilisation. In a statement, CCOO said the conflict shows Nissan's wish to keep moving activity out of its Catalan plants.
The union linked the dispute to the 2020 announcement of closures at the Montcada i Reixac and Zona Franca plants in Barcelona. That earlier process led to 2,500 job losses, and the reindustrialisation board did not fully re-employ the affected workers until 2025.
Nissan now plans to cut almost 40% of the remaining jobs from the 2020 restructuring, with production to be moved to other European and Japanese plants. Unions are calling on the government to intervene to protect Catalan industry and jobs.
