A Manresa resident has expressed frustration at having to act as an unofficial 'police' against people drinking alcohol and playing loud music in Puigterrà Park. The unnamed resident, who lives next to the park, told reporters he frequently finds empty beer bottles and cans left behind.
On 17 May, at 10am, the resident discovered about 20 empty beer bottles and several cans at one of the park's wooden picnic tables. These items, he said, were left from the previous night. He explained that this is not an isolated incident.
Residents Confront Park Users
"Many times, we residents have to go up in the evening and speak with those drinking alcohol with music at full volume," the resident stated. He added that they inform people about Manresa's public spaces regulations, which prohibit alcohol consumption and loud music. "Some listen to reason; others do not," he said.
The resident criticised the local police, the Guàrdia Urbana, for their infrequent presence. "It is very sad to have to do a job that corresponds to the Guàrdia Urbana, who come up very occasionally and almost never on weekend evenings, only when they are called," he explained. This ongoing issue highlights a gap in enforcement, leaving residents to manage public order themselves.
