Lleida and the surrounding region saw early summer heat on Thursday, 21 May, with temperatures rising above 34°C in several places. Forecasts point to even higher values on Friday, 22 May, the first day of the Aplec del Caragol festival.

According to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, Alcarràs reached 34.4°C, Vilanova de Segrià 34.1°C, Castellnou de Sena 33.6°C and Gimenells i Torres de Segre 33.5°C.

Mountain areas also felt the warmth. La Seu d’Urgell reached 30°C, Vielha recorded 26°C, Sort 29°C and El Pont de Suert 27°C. Vielha’s minimum temperature was 11°C.

Other regional capitals on the plain, including Tremp, Balaguer, Tàrrega, Cervera, Mollerussa and Les Borges Blanques, also went above 30°C. The heat is expected to build through the weekend, with temperatures likely to rise above Thursday’s figures.

For Friday, the forecast for the Lleida plain is highs of up to 36°C, while mountain areas could reach 32°C.
