Lleida’s city council, La Paeria, is facing pressure from opposition parties over its response to the future of Lleida CF. Municipal sources say the executive is “analysing the situation with prudence” and is still “working on the marked roadmap”.

The row comes as the club’s crisis continues to dominate local politics in Lleida, with the council led by the PSC defending its approach. The executive said it regretted the situation experienced by Marc Torres, a club figure, and noted that a new agreement for the use of the Camp d’Esports stadium was finalised last week and began processing this week. The council says the deal “reinforces institutional collaboration between La Paeria and Lleida CF”.

Opposition parties say that is not enough. Xavi Palau, spokesperson for the PP, said that “the city and the fans do not deserve what is happening”. He added that there are “many unanswered questions” and argued the government “cannot stand aside” because the situation “harms Lleida’s image and brand”.

Jordina Freixanet of ERC criticised the lack of a public statement from the mayor or any government member “at this time”. ERC said it has supported the club and Marc Torres from the start, and described Lleida CF as “the city’s historic club”. The party said it will “do everything possible” to preserve Lleida’s football tradition and sporting spirit.

Junts also voiced concern. Spokesperson Violant Cervera said she “deeply” regretted the situation and said Lleida CF “is much more than football”, linking it to “the memory, feelings, and identity of the city”. Vox said the club is “on the verge of disappearance” and blamed both previous municipal governments and the current executive of Fèlix Larrosa for abandoning the team.

In a related development, supporters will not launch a popular club initiative until the current liquidation process is complete, according to Miquel Pascual. For ongoing coverage of local politics and sport in Catalonia, see our news page.
