Lleida’s grassroots revival draws big crowds
Lleida CF is experiencing a resurgence in support as it restarts from the lowest tier of Catalan football, Quarta Catalana, with over 4,170 members – the highest in the club’s 21st-century history. The revival has drawn thousands of fans to early season matches, including nearly 1,000 at the Sunyer’s sand pitch on 5 October 2026 and more than 4,700 at their home debut against Seròs. The team won both opening fixtures by wide margins, defeating Sunyer 5–2 in a match described as a celebration of local football, with Adri Fernández scoring a hat-trick. According to Segre, the attendance at Sunyer was unprecedented for the village of 310 residents, and tickets sold out within days.
Sudanell prepares for influx
This Sunday 18 October 2026, Lleida CF travels to CF Sudanell, a village with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants in the same comarca. The match, scheduled for 17:00 at the municipal ground, is expected to draw around 1,000 spectators, close to the 1,200-person capacity.
We’ve been talking about it for weeks. It’s historic for Lleida to debut here.
The visit is set to transform the small community, much like Sunyer, where volunteers used a tractor to level the sandy pitch before Lleida’s visit.
Hidden legacy: Camp Nou seats in Sudanell stand
A little-known fact about Sudanell’s ground is that its stands contain seating originally from FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou. In 2006, the club received around 200 seats when Barça upgraded its stadium’s seating. According to La Mañana, as reported by 3Cat, only about 100 remain usable due to weathering. These seats, once used during Champions League finals, will now host fans watching a Quarta Catalana fixture – a symbolic journey from European elite football to grassroots Catalan sport. Lleida CF’s official Twitter account confirmed the fixture: “This Sunday, 18 October, 17:00, Municipal de Sudanell. We’re waiting for you, blues. #SudanellLleida”.
