Five people were rescued from a drifting recreational boat off the coast of Mataró, Barcelona, on 1 May, according to a statement from the Civil Guard on Monday.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:50am when a coastal patrol received an urgent call from the vessel. The boat was out of control due to an engine breakdown and was located about one nautical mile (1.85 km) from Mataró beach.
Civil Guard Response
A Civil Guard boat, positioned 15 nautical miles (27.78 km) away, reached the distressed vessel in about 50 minutes. Rescuers found the boat 500 metres from the north breakwater of Mataró port and 300 metres from the beach.
After confirming that no water had entered the boat, agents began towing it to port. They used a rope secured from the stern of the patrol boat. All five occupants were disembarked without injuries, meaning no medical assistance or hospital transfers were necessary.
