Mollerussa, Lleida: Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has started a series of meetings with local councils along the Lleida-Terrassa railway line. The first meeting took place in Mollerussa on 4 May 2026, where FGC officials presented their plans for the RL3 (Lleida-Cervera) and RL4 (Lleida-Terrassa) lines, which FGC Rail will soon manage.
Carles Ruiz Novella, president of FGC, met with Mollerussa mayor Marc Solsona and councillor for Sustainability, Energy Transition, and New Works, Josep Maria Garrofé. Ruiz Novella outlined the expected benefits for the region, including more frequent services, new and more comfortable trains, improved punctuality, and better coordination with high-speed rail and other transport systems. He also highlighted that a public operator closer to the region would provide a real alternative to private vehicles.
FGC detailed planned investments and improvements for the line. These include upgrading stations, installing real-time customer information systems, progressively introducing ticket vending machines, enhancing accessibility, and updating signage and corporate branding. The company aims to establish an open and direct communication channel with municipalities to ensure active listening and quick responses, strengthening Lleida and Ponent's role as key mobility hubs in Catalonia.
Improving Rail Services
President Ruiz expressed satisfaction with the initial meeting. He said it allowed FGC to explain the service FGC Rail will offer on the Lleida-Terrassa line and the benefits users of the RL3 and RL4 lines will see once FGC takes over. Ruiz added that it is key for mayors to view FGC as an operator with whom they can maintain fluid communication to advance regional mobility together.
Mollerussa's mayor, Marc Solsona, welcomed FGC's management of Rodalies Lleida, anticipating service improvements. Solsona also expressed openness to collaborating on managing the station building, aiming to transform it into a space open to the city. He reiterated the need to fulfil the commitment to Catalanise the station's name.
FGC Rail's Management of the Lleida-Terrassa Line
FGC will operate the RL3 and RL4 lines, currently part of the Rodalies Lleida system. The new service will include 14 daily journeys in each direction between Lleida and Cervera. Five of these will extend to Terrassa, increasing the current RL3 line frequency by three journeys.
The service will use four trains. The first train is currently undergoing tests at FGC's Pla de Vilanoveta workshop. Construction of the other three trains is progressing at the Stadler factory in Valencia.
FGC is also upgrading the Pla de Vilanoveta workshop. This involves expanding the building and installing a wheel lathe and a washing tunnel. These works will be complemented by the installation of a Management Centre and driving simulators for training, with the goal of making Pla de Vilanoveta the Rodalies de Lleida Operations Centre.
