Barcelona will restrict vehicle access in Gràcia and Sants this weekend, 23 and 24 May, as part of the city’s Obrim Carrers programme. From 10am to 9pm, the Gran de Gràcia and Creu Coberta, Carrer de Sants axes will be closed to most traffic, with priority given to pedestrians.
The measure is part of Barcelona’s wider urban mobility policy, which aims to reduce private car use on main streets. According to Metrópoli Abierta, similar actions were expanded under the previous municipal government led by Ada Colau.
Bus changes in Gràcia
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, TMB, says bus lines V17, 22, 24 and 114 will be affected on Gran de Gràcia. Towards the mountain, from Plaça del Cinc d'Oros, these buses will divert via Avinguda Diagonal, Via Augusta, Avinguda de la Riera de Cassoles and Plaça Lesseps.
Line 114 will also be affected by the Comerç al carrer event, and will not run along Gran de Gràcia, Ros de Olano, Via Augusta or Travessera de Gràcia. TMB advises passengers to use Diagonal, Fontana or Lesseps metro stations instead. For route updates, readers can check the TMB website and the news tag page.
Bus changes in Creu Coberta and Sants
In the Creu Coberta, Carrer de Sants area, bus lines D20 and V5 will also be disrupted. The D20, towards Plaça Espanya, will divert via Avinguda de Madrid, Carrers de Berlín, Numància and Tarragona. Towards Carrer de Sants, it will reroute via Tarragona, Plaça dels Països Catalans, Passeig de Sant Antoni, Carrer de Comtes de Bell-Lloc and Avinguda de Madrid.
Line V5, towards Mare de Déu de Port, will divert via Passeig de Sant Antoni and Carrers de Tarragona and Consell de Cent. TMB recommends using other bus lines, including D40, H8, H10, H12, H16, V1, V3, V7, 13, 46, 54, 65, 79, 91, 109, 115 and 157, or the metro. Suggested stations include Collblanc, Badal, Plaça de Sants, Hostafrancs and Espanya.
Who can use the streets
During Obrim Carrers, access is limited to municipal service vehicles, emergency vehicles, loading and unloading vehicles, residents accessing private car parks, users of rotation car parks, taxis in emergencies and vehicles for people with reduced mobility. Bicycles and scooters are allowed, but riders must give priority to pedestrians and keep to a maximum speed of 10 kilometres per hour.
