Barcelona has received a boost in its bid to host the 2029 Champions League final at Spotify Camp Nou, after the Spanish government backed the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s proposal.

The approval was announced on 26 May 2026. It strengthens the city’s case as the RFEF prepares to take the bid to UEFA, which will make the final decision.

The proposal centres on Barcelona’s ability to stage major international events, along with the ongoing work at Camp Nou. If selected, the final would bring global attention to the Catalan capital and to FC Barcelona.

The 2029 final would also fall in the centenary year of Camp Nou’s inauguration, adding historical significance to the bid. That timing could make the city’s case more attractive to UEFA.
