Badalona's municipal government has announced a reduction in crime across the city for 2025, according to data published by the Ministry of Interior. The city now ranks 18th in Catalonia for crime rates, with an average of 64.36 offences per 1,000 inhabitants.

This figure places Badalona below larger cities such as Barcelona, L'Hospitalet, Esplugues, Sant Adrià, and El Prat de Llobregat in terms of crime per capita. The local government attributes this positive trend to its security policies.

Mayor Highlights Progress

Badalona Mayor Xavier García Albiol stated that these official figures show the municipality is "advancing in a good direction" and that the city is "safer than a few years ago". He emphasised that the measures implemented are "working" and are improving the city "year after year".

Albiol also noted that security has been an "absolute priority" since he returned to lead the council, and this focus is now "beginning to be reflected" in official statistics. The municipal executive highlighted these positive results despite Badalona being one of Catalonia's most populated cities.

Coordinated Police Efforts

Mayor Albiol confirmed that the efforts of the Guàrdia Urbana, working in coordination with the Mossos d'Esquadra, Guardia Civil, and Policía Nacional, are yielding results. He cited increased police presence on the streets and a firm stance against crime as key factors. The municipal executive's strategy is based on "recovering public space and zero tolerance against criminal behaviour".

Moving forward, the city council is expected to continue its current security policies, aiming to maintain the downward trend in crime rates and further enhance public safety.
